    Organic Cereal

     

    Exciting news! Two new delicious cereals officially landed at a special event hosted by Michelle Obama Elementary on May 2, 2024. After nearly four decades as a leader in organic cereals, Nature’s Path is now proudly serving their new USDA organic, school-compliant cereal to students in our school district (WCCUSD), followed by California and schools nationwide! This delicious organic option was first introduced in the West Contra Costa Unified School District, where Conscious Kitchen has been transforming school food since 2017, benefiting 29,000 students across 54 schools as a statewide model.

    ¡Noticias emocionantes! Dos nuevos y deliciosos cereales oficialmente llegaron en un evento especial organizado por la Primaria Michelle Obama el 2 de mayo de 2024. Después de casi cuatro décadas como líder en cereales orgánicos, Nature’s Path ahora sirve con orgullo su nuevo cereal orgánico, certificado por el USDA y compatible con las escuelas a estudiantes en nuestro distrito escolar (WCCUSD), seguido por California y escuelas en todo el país. Esta deliciosa opción orgánica fue presentada por primera vez en el Distrito Escolar Unificado de West Contra Costa, donde Conscious Kitchen ha estado transformando la comida escolar desde 2017, beneficiando a 29,000 estudiantes en 54 escuelas como un modelo estatal.

    School Lunch Hero Day is a special occasion dedicated to honoring and appreciating the hard work and dedication of school nutrition professionals who provide nutritious meals to students every day. Its typically celebrated on the first of Friday of May each year. This year we are celebration our entire Food Services Team. We recognize their hard work and dedication in serving meals to all students. We are incredibly thankful to have each and every one of you on our team; without you, everything would not be possible.

    El Dia del Heroe del Almuerzo Escolar es una ocasion especial dedicada a honrar y apreciar el arduo trabajo y la dedicacion de los profecionales de la nutricion escolar que proporcionan comidas nutritivas a los estudiantes todos los dias. Tipicamente se celebra el primer viernes de mayo de cada año. Este año estamos celebrando a todo nuestro equipo de servicios de alimentos. Reconocemos su arduo trabajo y dedicacion al servir comidas a todos los estudiantes. Estamos increiblemente agradeciods  de tener a cada uno de ustedes en nuestro equipo; sin ustedes, nada seria posible.

    Learning and good nutrition go hand in hand!

    Food Services is committed to providing healthy school meals and snacks to the students of West Contra Costa Unified in order to support student academic success and promote healthful eating habits that lead to lifelong positive nutrition practices. We provide more than 30,000 meals and snacks per day to students and staff throughout the district and employ more than 240 team members.

    School meals are served to students under the National School Lunch and Breakfast Programs. Meals, foods and beverages sold or served at schools meet state and federal requirements which are based on the  Dietary Guidelines. We provide students with access to a variety of affordable and appealing foods that meet the health and nutrition needs of students. Meals and snacks are also served through the United States Department of Agriculture’s Seamless Summer Option and the Child and Adult Care Feeding Program. Following the nutrition guidelines prescribed by the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010, we serve whole-grain rich products; low fat and fat free milk; 100% fruit and/or vegetable juices; and a variety of fresh, seasonal fruits and vegetables.
