The West Contra Costa Unified School District Academic Committee understands and works from a position that zip codes should not dictate or predict student success in public school or experience in public school. We acknowledge the systemic racism that the education system was built from and we actively work to dismantle those barriers.

West Contra Costa Unified School District provides a rigorous curriculum with high expectations and high support for all students to succeed by maintaining a positive learning environment that is welcoming and focused on the whole student. • We plan, work, and implement policy and programs from an equity lens (cultural pedagogy is paramount. We know the kids we are to serve)

• All third grade students are reading at grade level
• Struggling second graders not reading at grade level are given an intense program throughout the summer of second grade to ensure they are at grade level starting third grade
• Fifth graders start 6th grade with a firm elementary school math foundation
• All middle schoolers leave middle school with a firm algebraic foundation
• All high schoolers have a post high school road map
• All SPED students receive the services required by law and more
• We strive to have high rate of reclassification for all ELL students 
• Academic leveling-all district zip codes provide quality education 
• Parent education programs are vast and establish parent confidence
• Provide strong CTE programs accessible to all students
• Provide academies at the secondary level to prepare students for college and/or career 
• Create an African American and bilingual roadmap for success

As authorized by the Governor's Emergency Executive Order issued on March 17, 2020, the West Contra Costa Unified School District will conduct the Board Academic Committee meetings via video conference/teleconference until further notice.  The meeting will be streamed via Zoom.

Thank you in advance for your understanding and cooperation as we use new ways to conduct the people’s business while allowing for maximum participation and adhering to our values of respect and safety for the community.

This meeting will provide public comment opportunities through the Zoom app or by telephone. To indicate your desire to speak on an agenda item, “raise your hand” by clicking on the appropriate icon in the Zoom app or by pressing *9 if accessing the meeting by phone. In order to be recognized to speak, you must be logged in with your first and last name, and your hand must be “raised” before public comment begins for the item.

Due to the Brown Act, Board members cannot discuss items that are not on the agenda and do not usually respond to items presented in Public Comment.
