What is Title IX?

Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 prohibits sex discrimination in education, including K-12 schools. Title IX is a federal law that has been used to promote equity in education by ensuring that students receive equal resources and treatment in the classroom and provides protection for students who are sexually harassed and discriminated against and/or bullied based on their gender.

The West Contra Costa Unified School District maintains compliance with federal Title IX training requirements. The following Title IX trainings were used to train District administrators and employees: 

• Implementing the New Title IX Regulations (August 25, 2020)
• Best Practices for Identifying, Responding to, and Investigating Complaints - Title IX (December 13, 2022)
• Sexual Misconduct Complaints: Part 1 How to Spot if it's Title IX (January 19, 2023)
• Sexual Misconduct Complaints: Part 2 What to Do if it is Title IX (February 16, 2023)
• Overview of Effective Investigations (March 13, 2023)
