Teachers' College Reading and Writing Project

West Contra Costa Unified School district has adopted a new model for Balanced Literacy, Teachers' College Reading and Writing Project, TCRWP, from Columbia University. This is a model of reading and writing instruction based on daily workshop practice. During this time, the teacher offers a 10-12 minute mini lesson to target specific concepts and skills, followed by extended independent student practice. Integral part of the workshop model, along with independent reading and writing, is partner work, teacher-student conferences, and small group instruction.

In both, reading and writing workshops, students have a choice on what they read and write about, and throughout the year they develop their skills, confidence and identity as readers and writers. Writing instruction is organized around genres: narrative, 豆奶成人直播al, persuasive. For K-1students, phonics instruction is part of the daily curriculum. 

Reading instruction is organized around fiction and non-fiction texts. Each class has a classroom library organized by levels, from which students “shop for” books, to find “just right” leveled books. During distance learning digital copies of books available through various platforms such as Destiny Follet, Epic or Zora comprised the classroom libraries.

El Distrito Unificado del Oeste de Contra Costa ha adoptado un modelo nuevo de Literacidad Balanceada, El Proyecto de Lectura y Escritura de Teachers College, TCRWP de la Universidad de Columbia. Este es un modelo de instrucción de lectura y escritura basado en la práctica diaria de talleres. Durante este tiempo, el maestro ofrece una mini lección de 10 a 12 minutos para enfocarse en conceptos y habilidades específicas, seguida por una práctica independiente extendida por parte del estudiante. Una parte integral del modelo de taller, junto con la lectura y escritura independientes, es el trabajo en equipo, las conferencias entre maestros y estudiantes, y la instrucción en grupos pequeños.

Tanto en el taller de lectura como en el de escritura, los estudiantes pueden elegir lo que leen y escriben, y durante el año desarrollan sus habilidades, confianza e identidad como lectores y escritores. La enseñanza de la escritura se organiza en torno a géneros: narrativo, informativo, y persuasivo. Para los estudiantes de K-1er grado, la instrucción fonética es parte del plan de estudios diario.

La instrucción de lectura se organiza en torno a textos de ficción y no ficción. Cada clase tiene una biblioteca en el aula organizada por niveles, desde la cual los estudiantes “compran” libros para encontrar textos de nivel “perfecto”. Durante el aprendizaje a distancia, las bibliotecas del aula están compuestas por copias digitales de libros disponibles a través de plataformas digitales como Destiny Follet, Epic o Zora.
