Covid Updates Effective March 1 2023

Dear WCCUSD Community,

Governor Gavin Newsom has announced that the COVID-19 State of Emergency will end tomorrow, February 28, 2023. This announcement charts the path to phasing out the Emergency Health Order that California has used to combat COVID-19. WCCUSD has taken numerous steps to prepare us for this phaseout and set ourselves up for a safe and successful transition.

Effective March 1, 2023, WCCUSD will take the following measures as a continued effort to mitigate the spread of COVID-19:

  • Positive staff and students will continue to isolate for 5 days and test on the 5th day. If negative and not symptomatic, staff and students can return on day 6 but are strongly recommended to wear a mask from day 6-10. People that do not test must continue to isolate for the full 10 days.

  • Vaccinations: We will continue to strongly recommend vaccinations but will not require vaccination for students. There is no current WCCUSD vaccination mandate for COVID-19 for students.

  • Masking is strongly recommended and will continue to be part of our COVID strategy.

  • Ventilation will continue as part of our COVID strategy.

  • Testing: We will retire LSA’s testing services on March 1, 2023; however, we will continue to have at-home test kits available to staff and students for exposures and symptomatic people while supplies last.

    • Per the FDA, use the  to determine the extension dates for COVID test kits used after the expiration date.

  • Group tracing model: Per changes in CPDH guidelines, we will retire this process on March 1, 2023. We will continue to have at-home test kits available for staff and students who were exposed to the positive case. Students can remain in class as long as they are not symptomatic, but we will strongly recommend that people test within 3-5 days.

  • COVID Reporting Process: School site administrators will continue to implement our current reporting procedures.

  • Notifications: Principals will provide COVID notifications to exposed people, the school community, and union partners.

  • Contact Tracing- Per changes in CPDH procedures, we are no longer contact tracing, but we will continue to report positive cases to the CPDH School Portal for Outbreak Tracking when our district has three or more positive cases. Tracers will only contact positive cases to give further instruction (Tracing staff will be reduced.)

  • COVID Dashboard- We will continue to maintain the WCCUSD COVID dashboard for onsite positive cases only, which includes both staff and students.

  • District Website- Communications is currently updating our website to reflect all COVID updates.

Thank you for your continued partnership to keep our community safe.

Sincerely,

Dr. Chris Hurst

Superintendent, WCCUSD
